Toronto Blue Jays Activate LHP Yusei Kikuchi from Injured List
Blue Jays Bolster Rotation with Kikuchi's Return
The Toronto Blue Jays have activated left-handed pitcher (LHP) Yusei Kikuchi from the 15-day injured list, providing a much-needed boost to their struggling rotation.
Kikuchi's Struggles and Return
Kikuchi, who signed a lucrative three-year contract with the Blue Jays in 2022, endured a disappointing first season in Toronto. The Japanese import posted an abysmal 5.19 ERA and 1.60 WHIP in 32 starts.
Kikuchi began the 2023 season on the injured list due to a shoulder injury. After a successful rehab assignment in the minors, he is now healthy and ready to contribute to the Blue Jays' rotation.
Blue Jays' Rotation Woes
The Blue Jays' rotation has been a major weakness this season, with several pitchers struggling to live up to expectations. Top prospect Nate Pearson and veteran Kevin Gausman have both been injured, while Hyun-Jin Ryu has been inconsistent.
Kikuchi's return provides the Blue Jays with some depth and experience in their rotation. The 31-year-old has proven himself to be a capable starter in the past, and the Blue Jays will hope that he can regain his form in Toronto.
