Dundee United ‘keeper Siegrist set for Rangers return

The Buddies keeper, on loan from Celtic, could be heading back to Glasgow.

Dundee United goalkeeper Benjamin Siegrist is reportedly set to return to Rangers this summer, just one year after leaving Ibrox on loan.

The Swiss stopper joined the Tannadice club last summer in search of regular first-team football, having struggled to break into Steven Gerrard’s Rangers side.

Siegrist has been a key player for Dundee United this season.

He has kept 13 clean sheets in 38 appearances, helping the Taysiders secure a top-six finish in the Scottish Premiership.

However, with his loan deal set to expire at the end of the season, speculation has been rife about Siegrist’s future.

And according to a report in the Daily Record, Rangers are now keen to bring the 29-year-old back to Ibrox.

The report claims that Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is a big admirer of Siegrist and sees him as a potential long-term replacement for Allan McGregor.

McGregor is now 40 years old and is expected to retire at the end of the season.

If Siegrist does return to Rangers, it will be a major blow to Dundee United.

The Swiss keeper has been a key player for the Taysiders this season and his departure would leave a big hole in their squad.

However, it would be a great opportunity for Siegrist to return to a big club and challenge for trophies.
